Like most community events on the Island, this one is devoid of flash, but filled with a sense of low-key fun and the spirit of a time gone by. Imagine a county fair from decades ago — with its food stands, exhibits, a parade, games, bingo and a raffle — and you’ll be pretty close to the reality.
Take the ferry, head for the W.I. School grounds on Main Road, pay your admission ($1), and take a step back in time to a place where everyone knew everybody else’s name, you worked hard all week, but could look forward to the weekend’s big excitement, the fair!
It’s all a part of the Island’s continuing charm — imagine the 1950’s, but with cell phones and the Internet…
