For many years, The Washington Island Electric Co-operative has hung American flags during the summer and Scandinavian flags during the Scandinavian Festival in our downtown area. These flags were supplied by the American Legion, the town of Washington and the Electric Co-operative.
In the winter, they installed Christmas trees, donated by Ray Hansen and Daniel Nerenhausen, on light poles. Now they are installing banner brackets on light poles in town, on south Main road, the ferry dock, and at other Island business locations.
The banners, designed by Aislinn Cornell and Amy Jorgenson, are based on the Washington Island flag. Robert Cornell said, “We are soliciting donations to help cover the cost of the banners – just under $100 each. We hope Island businesses and individuals will participate in this project.”
Cornell expects that they will need 15 to 20 banners and hopes to have the brackets installed and the banners up by July 4.
Many banners are already in place. If you have questions or wish to make a donation, please contact Robert Cornell at 920-847-2541.
