WASHINGTON ISLAND (Mar. 1, 2013) – Come to beautiful Washington Island Friday and Saturday, August 23th & 24th for the second official Death’s Door Bar-B-Q at the Washington Island Airport. Presented by the Washington Island Ferry Line and the Washington Island Chamber of Commerce, the Death’s Door Bar-B-Q is a KCBS-Sanctioned Competition with 100% Certified Judges and $7,500 in Prize Money.
Just picture yourself crossing the beautiful Porte De Mort passage (Death’s Door) connecting the waters of Lake Michigan and Green Bay, to the unspoiled beauty of Washington Island. Don’t worry, our ferries can handle any size vehicle so whatever rig you have will easily fit on the boats.
Regular registration is FRIDAY, August 23, 2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Teams will be able to sell BBQ at the competition if they wish.
Death’s Door Bar-B-Q opens to the public at the Washington Island Airport on Saturday, August 24th at10am with free admission, arts & crafts, kids’ activities, live music, food vendors, and of course – Barbequed Chicken, Pork, Pork Ribs, and Beef Brisket as sold by competitors.
Shoreline Charters will be offering scenic island cruises from Kaps Marina during the Death’s Door Barbecue Contest. This narrated one-hour cruise will take you to see the Plum and Pilot Island Lighthouses, local shallow water shipwrecks and other island landmarks. See eagles, pelicans, swans and other wildlife, and learn the history of the area while relaxing aboard the Shoreline.
