Enjoy this day, first.
It may sound smug, but I can’t help feeling sorry for those who’ve elected to leave our northern climate — escaped, is how it’s often expressed — to enjoy the warmth of Florida or other southern climes. I’m happy to point out how beautiful it all can be, the contrast with those days when nothing seems to happen, the cold, gray sameness. How wonderful the sunshine feels through our kitchen window. How fresh the air outdoors. How soft the early morning and late evening light. Winter can be about discovering all over again the surprises this corner of the world has to offer.
